I need reminders, lots of them! Post-it notes, lists, bells on my phone, and blog updates! So I thought that a quick reminder would help inspire you to create a name tag to proudly wear to this month's meeting. Here's some more tags to get you inspired:

I don't know about you, but I'm counting down the days, hours, and even minutes until this Saturday's Sew Day! Come to Fabric Depot starting at 9am - 8pm. Stay all day or stop by whenever you can. Sew Days are free for PMQG members or $10 for non-members. There's a lot of room to spread out for sewing or cutting! Feel free to bring an iron, if needed. What project will you bring to work on?

Also, Michelle Freedman will be teaching a hands-on improvisational patchwork sewing demo on at noon on Saturday. Come join in to learn more!

Stitches in Bloom

Quilters from all over Oregon and southern Washington state represented at the Stitches in Bloom Quilt Show last weekend, filling up the garden's exhibition hall with nearly 200 quilts. The Studio Art Quilt Associates also debuted their special exhibit called "Oregon: State of Diversity II". I spent a few hours at the show, here's what I found interesting.

January Meeting

Our first meeting of the year! We had quite a turn out with a lot of new faces. Thank you all for joining us I hope you had fun.

Our new president Susan led the meeting thanking our previous board and introducing the new one, we'll tell you a little more about us later. One more time thank you Christina President, Michelle Vice President, Rachel Treasure, Katie Secretary, and Megan Programs. It was a fun year and we appreciate all the time and energy you put into the Guild!
Susan also acknowledged all of the guild members that contributed to Quilts for Quakes. Quilts for Quakes sent 30 quiltsto Japan, raised $2825 directly for Mercy Corps, plus $660 via the Craft Partyat the Museum of Contemporary Craft in June. Thank you for all the fabric donations, sewing, and quilting! The final fewquilts will be going to Bradley-Angle House, in two waves as the last volunteers finish them. We will be posting a little more about Bradley-Angle House soon.

Our ten minute tute this month was all about making your own name tag. After seeing all of the beautiful ones at the Sewing Summit this year we thought it would be fun for our guild to make their own. This is my name tag I made for the Summit.

Mine was made by sewing scraps together for the boarder and stamping my name and website in the center with archival ink. My tip is stamp before you sew so if you have any smudges (like I do) you don't have to start over. Instead of adding binding, I chose to layer my front and back with batting, right sides together, sew, and then turn right side out. If you'd like to do binding on your name tag this is a great tutorial by Kerry of verykerryberry for making single binding for small projects.

Here's a few name tags from the Sewing Summit. You can see the variety in style and size aren't they fun!

At next months meeting we will have a mixer to share everyone's name tags. If you missed this months meeting we do have pin backs for you to use but in the meantime you can use a good ole safety pin or make a lanyard like Angela did above.

Now onto Show and Tell we had a lot of beautiful quilts this month! But really, I think we always do, so I might be biased.

Rachel Kerley shared her example from a quilting demo she and Cherri did at Modern Domestic for the shop's new quilting frame.

Rachel also shared this Triangle Quilt she made using fellow member Jill's TabSlot templates.

She also showed this top she made using the scraps. One or both of these will be going to the Children's Relief Nursery.

Kate Sharaf's Drunkards Path quilt top. Kate has been doing a quilt along for this on her blog.

Amorette's Art Gallery Improv Quilt which is a charity quilt and she had a lot of fun with the improv blocks.

Cherri Langley also brought in some Spoonflower fabric First Color Chart which is a copy of the first commercially designed color chart from 1680 fabric by Peagreengirl.

Linda Nussbaum shared two quilts this month I-Spy for Henry who was just born in December and

this Love Summertime Stars quilt top pattern by Fig Tree Quilts.

Aly Good's La Tortuga Quilt. Look closely, you'll be able to see that the turtle shell is three dimensional and there's lovely quilting detail.

Jen Carlton-Bailly shared her Quilted Weekender Bag. Congratulations to Jen the new Social Media Coordinator for the Modern Quilt Guild!

Alexandra Kloch shared her quick and easy snugly blanket that's backed with Minky.

Holiday Meeting this Thursday

We'll see you in Room 101 for a fun holiday potluck meeting on Thursday at 7pm. Quilts, food and even a bit of beer and wine will be on hand (and you are welcome to bring more for Heather, our OLCC licensed server for the evening to officially serve, but no hard liquor please!)

Remember to bring your handmade gift for your holiday swap partner! We'll also be having a membership drive. Bring $25 cash or check if you'd like to pay for your 2012 membership at the meeting. Cards will be available in January, and we will re-open online memberships in January as well.

We will still be having show and tell, so bring a quilt in any stage of completion to show. And if you participated in the KCMQG potholder swap, the potholders will be at the meeting as well!

Time Flies: are you sewing yet?

The year is almost over, and for many of us that means holiday sewing deadlines loom. Like the PMQG Swap. Have you finished the gift for your swap partner? Only 8 more days until our December meeting.

And I know everyone's schedules are filling fast, but I do hope you have room for one more All-Day Sew. Come and spend the day with us, and put a big dent in that holiday sewing to-do list. Or ignore it and start a new quilt. Imagine 12 hours of uninterrupted sewing - join us at Fabric Depot, 700 SE 122nd Ave, starting at 9 am this Saturday, December 10. As usual it is free for members and $10 for non-members. There are plenty of tables but remember to bring your sewing machine and any needed accessories (bobbins, pins, presser feet, thread, scissors). It would be great if you could RSVP in the comments.

Interested in being a PMQG officer?

As the year turns over, we will hand over the PMQG reigns to a new group of five leaders. Do you want to be one of them? All the officers work together on guild ideas and decisions. We also have individual duties. In a nutshell, these are our roles:

President: Run member and officer meetings, manage guild communication and make sure the important things are happening.
Program Coordinator: Work closely with the Board president to organize presentations for each meeting, including speakers and ten-minute-tutes, as well as procuring giveaway items. Assist as needed during meetings.
Vice President: Perform the duties of the president if the president is unable (run the meetings, etc), maintain online media (blog, Flickr, Facebook)
Secretary: Document officer and member meetings, create or delegate PMQG signage as needed.
Treasurer: Manage membership and guild finances.

If you are interested, please let us know by emailing us at portlandmodernquiltguild@gmail.com by November 2nd. Make sure to let us know which role you would like to fill!

Oh me oh my, it is the third week of October - Quilt Guild Meeting week!

We will be meeting in room 201 of PNCA (1241 NW Johnson St) from 7-9 pm this Thursday, October 20. We have a special request this month - PNCA is hosting an event in their commons space during the time that we arrive for the meeting and they need us to be quiet as we make our way upstairs to our meeting.

Now, some reminders: if you want to participate in the December swap, your baggie of fabric is due at the October meeting. If you forgot to grab a baggie at the last meeting - that is okay, just fill a sandwich-sized plastic zip bag with fabric you love (it can be scraps) and bring it to the meeting where we will have the info sheets to add to your bag. Don't have a plastic baggie, just bring some of your scraps and we will have some spare baggies too.

If you are scratching your head about this swap... last November we swapped fabric stuffed baggies and in December we all got something back made with our fabric (check out the goodies made last December). We heard that the time frame was too short so this year we decided to do the initial swap in October, giving us two months to make the swap-gift for another member. So stuff that baggie with fabric that you like!

And one of the days we all wait for is at the end of the week: a PMQG All Day Sew! This Saturday (10/22) starting at 9 am we meet at Fabric Depot (700 SE 122nd Ave). The event is free for members and $10 for non-members. There are plenty of tables but remember to bring your sewing machine and any needed accessories (bobbins, pins, presser feet, thread, scissors). If you can bring an iron or extension cord that would be great too.

Hey Oregonians, a show of quilty goodness is coming to Silverton right in the middle of winter, when we'll need it most. Mary, the show coordinator, says she would love to see lots of modern quilts in this January show.

We want your 10 minute Tutorial

We are looking for PMQG members to share their knowledge, we are looking for your ten minute tutes.

The ten minute tutorial; It can be hard to know if your tutorial can be done in ten-minutes but don't worry too much - it is a general guideline, a way to say "this doesn't have to be crazy-involved". It can be hard to know if this object or technique you know is known by everybody but don't worry too much - sure some of us might already know it, but some of us might not. Our guild is made up of every skill level and doesn't it feel awesome to share a tidbit of knowledge. You might open eyes to an entirely new way of doing the same thing, since there is always more than one doing things…. So far we have seen new methods of quilting with a walking foot (more than straight lines!), zipper installation (just one method, among many), pillow making, notebook covers, hand quilting, glue basting and surely I'm forgetting a few.

Do you have an idea for a ten-minute tute? Something you'd be willing to share with fellow PMQG members or even something that you'd love to learn in a ten-minute tutorial, please let us know by emailing portlandmodernquiltquild@gmail.com. At the moment we are hoping to hear about your favorite quick sewn gifts; but all ideas are welcome all the time and we will work with you to figure out the best time to present them.

PRESENTATION Studio Art Quilts Associates by Kathy Blondell

Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc is a membership organization with over 2,800 members in 31 countries. Its mission is to promote the art quilt through exhibitions, publications and education. SAQA defines an art quilt as the contemporary artwork exploring and expressing aesthetic concerns common to the whole range of visual arts: painting, printmaking, photography, graphic design, assemblage and sculpture, which retains, though materials or technique, a clear relationship to the folk art quilt from which it descends. via Facebook

Kathy shared a slide show of the currently traveling truck show of 50 8"x8" art pieces (six shown above). The pieces possessed a range of media: zippers, plant dye, lace, paper, photos, hand sewing, color pencil, netting, printed fabric, wool, beads, applique, french knots, tinted fabric, rusted fabric, composted fabric, natural dye, gauze, raw edges, machine quilting, satin stitching, net overlay, etc. Imaginative, beautiful, inspiring!

Next up Kathy brought her personal collection of larger art quilts:

"If there is an element you really like exaggerate it." –kathy

Ale brought everyone a block sandwich, thread and a needle to practice the basic running stitch technique. Her tool preferences include Crewel needles, Dritz leather & plastic thimble and Thread Heaven conditioner and protectant. If you missed Ale's live tutorial here's an online seven part video tutorial. Above quilt has been in Ale's family for generations—entirely hand quilted!

Yup, it is the third Thursday of the month THIS Thursday! You know what that means? Portland Modern Quilt Guild's September meeting is at PNCA (1241 NW Johnson St) this week on September 15 from 7-9 pm. We look forward to seeing you there.

Habitat Challenge blocks have been showing up in the PMQG Flickr Pool and we are looking forward to seeing lots more - Please remember to bring your Habitat Challenge blocks to our September meeting so we can pass them along to our quilt coordinator and turn these blocks into a charity quilt. We will meet this Saturday for an all day sew starting at 9am at Fabric Depot (700 SE 122nd Avenue)! This event is free for members and $10 for non-members. But really, wouldn't you rather just join PMQG? Of course you would!

Remember, all that is supplied at this event are tables and excellent good company. We will try to have irons and extension cords but if you can bring one of these items please do! Remember your machine, machine pedal, pins, scissors, thread, presser feet and any other items you may need for all the awesome projects you're going to burn through on Saturday. See you there!

If you were able to pick up your free fabric bundle of for the Jay McCarroll Habitat Challenge at our July picnic, great! If you weren't able to make it you will be able to get yours at the August meeting.

Just a reminder that if you've taken a fabric bundle you should turn in a 12.5" (12 inch finished) block in any design at the September meeting. You are free to add any solid fabric you like, or any other fabric from the Habitat line, but no other print fabric please. These blocks are going to be assembled into quilt for donation to a local charity. We can't wait to see how they look together!

When you've made your block (and whatever else you decide to make from this great fabric!) please consider posting a picture in the Flickr group for the challenge.

We will meet at Laurelhurst park in SE Portland from 7-9. We are Picnic Site E between the pond and the restrooms off SE Ankeny Street. Don't worry, it's not hard to spot quilters in the park.

Is there a backup plan for rain? Yes. If it rains we will meet at PNCA. We will make the call by 5:30. If you are in doubt, check the blog. We will update here by 5:30 if we are going into rain mode. It's not raining! See you at the park!

Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show

Every year I tell myself that I'm going to go to Sisters for the quilt show and every year I don't make plans. This year, with PMQG being part of a special exhibit I knew I had to get myself there, so I bought a bus ticket from Fabric Depot (and saw two fellow members, though they ended up on the other bus). So this was my first time attending Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and while I thought I knew what to expect, quilts hung all over the buildings in town, I was not prepared for the amazing site of a town covered in quilts. Not only were there quilts all over outside, but there were quilts all over inside the shops too. And lots of people, there is just no getting around standing in line for things during the show, but lines go quickly and there is almost always a quilt or three to view while you wait.

I brought my water battle and a few snacks, but it wasn't actually necessary since there were enterprising kids selling water bottles all over town (I heard it was some sort of fundraiser too), multiple stands with kettle corn and other treats. We lucked out with a beautiful day, bright sun, light breezes and the temps only reaching the low 80's (I've heard it is often a good 10 degrees warmer this time of year). When I arrived in town, show hosts/volunteers were handing out Sisters, a newspaper magazine devoted to the show which included a map, a list of the special exhibits and an article on us, Portland Modern Quilt Guild, (it's on page 26). I spent my first two hours just wandering around town, taking in all to see along Cascade Ave (which is closed to cars for the day), stopping into the packed The Stitchin' Post, stopping by the tree exhibit and occasionally admiring the mountains.

Around noon I found our guild's exhibit, and what a great location, a nice grassy spot between two buildings we even had a few chairs, some shade and a nice breeze. Lots of people were milling about and Cherri (one of our members who volunteered their time to host our exhibit) told me we were getting a lot of positive feedback.

And I finally get to see the PMQG quilts sent to Sisters, some I had seen before during previous meeting's show and tells, some I had never seen before and they all looked awesome.

After taking a nice little break at our cozy exhibit, I started wandering the town some more. I found Cherri's quilt in the general show (thanks to a hint from Jill who spotted it earlier) and just enjoyed the day.

PROGRAM Quilt Market Recap

Kristin of Sew Mama Sew, Monica of Happy Zombie (designer of Happy Mochi Yum Yum fabric), and Traci of Hip Fabric of gave us their perspective and recap of Spring Quilt Market.

Quilt Market is a trade show; Kristen and Traci go there to buy fabric and fill their days with appointment with fabric company reps
Monica goes there to promote her fabric line (authors and designers are another group that goes to Quilt Market)
QM is great for scoping out new fabric, patterns and books that you haven't seen
QM helps fabric retailers see trends, and get fabric/patterns to make store samples
QM is also great for swag giveaways; some of which Kristen, Monica and Traci shared with PMQG as giveaways
Schoolhouse is the day before Quilt Market and filled with 20-minute slots for companies/designers/lines to tell you about their products in more detail; sometimes these are short classes but those are geared towards brick & mortar stores

I really enjoyed my time quilting with others at various Quilts for Quakes Survivors bees. I keep meaning to start doing more charity quilting. And as luck would have it,there is another bee this week to work on quilts at the Portland Etsy Craft Party this Friday, June 10. The bee is just part of the event, so check out the details at I Heart Art: Portland or the Quilts for Quake Survivors blog. The quilt raffle and sale is still happening via Modern Domestic too.

When you start looking there our so many different opportunities to give your quilts for good. Some drives are prompted by natural disasters and others are ongoing. Another event prompting a quilt drive that caught my eye: Craft Hope's Project 13: quilts for tornado survivors (with a nearing deadline of June 15). Craft Hope seems like an interesting place to keep an eye on, as each charity project they take on has a timeline. Another group collecting quilts for Joplin Tornado victims is Ackfeld Manufacturing, they might also have a deadline but I'm not sure. A quick search turned up a couple people organizing quilt drives for those in Alabama: Bama Bound Quilts and Julia of Green Quilts. I've probably missed a few.

Closer to home, with a bit of googling, I found Quilts from Caring Hands (and their list of resources seems like a great start).
I know that several PMQG members regularly work on charity quilts (Mary Anne works on Quilts for Kids quilts; Rachel quilts with.. oh dear I forgot the organization's name...)

Two PMQG events this week

First up: The Portland Modern Quilt Guild's monthly meeting is this Thursday, May 19 from 7-9 pm. As usual, we meet at the PNCA at 1241 NW Johnson Street but this month we will be in classroom 205. This month we conclude our solid's challenge; please remember to bring your finished swapped solid's project. Additionally, Katie will be collecting the blocks for our PMQG Banner. Gail Weiss, Petra Anderson, Angie George-Pendleton and Cathy Fowler you are signed up to bring snacks to the May meeting. Everyone, please bring your own cup to take advantage of the water pitcher at the meeting. Finally, please RSVP to this post so we have an idea of how many chairs to set up.

And our second event: We also have another All Day Sew on Saturday, May 21st. Join us for sewing and socializing from 9 am to 5 pm at Fabric Depot, 700 SE 122nd Avenue in southeast Portland. The sewing day is FREE to members! If you're not a member but you'd like to join us, you can come for just $10.

What to bring:

Your project and sewing machine (don't forget the pedal, cord and machine feet!) A power strip or extension cord if you have one. Sewing tools. We will provide a couple ironing boards and irons and a couple of cutting mats but the rest is up to you! Remember rulers, rotary cutters, scissors, thread and pins! Consider labeling common items so they don't get mistaken for someone else's. Drinks and snacks as desired.

April Meeting Reminder

Our April meeting is this week, Thursday, April 21st from 7-9 pm. As always it is at PNCA (1241 NW Johnson St) and this month we shall be in room 101. Remember to bring your solids block for the April Swap & Challenge. Kristen Reid, Claire Michie, Alexandra Kloch and Beverly Bently - you are signed up to bring snacks to the April meeting.

If you haven't managed to stop by PNCA gallery 214 yet know this is your last week to see fellow members quilts in our first show. The building is open from 9 am - 9 pm, but hurry; the show will be taken down on Thursday to facilitate returning the quilts to their makers.

Additionally we have reserved room 101 from 6-7 for a binding get together for Quilts for Quake Survivors. When I left the quilting bee on Friday night Rachel and Cherri tallied up 15 quilts that had been quilted that week. If you can make it to PNCA early for some sewing and gabbing that would be great. Bring hand sewing supplies so we can get those quilts finished.

And finally, a slight change in membership-joining protocol. If you haven't joined yet and want to do at the meeting please arrive early. Our treasurer, Rachel, will be set-up to accept new members before the meeting only (from 6:30-7:00).

Project Modern Challenge 2 Announced

Well PMQGers we win again!

The Modern Quilt Guild just announced the challenge 2 winners and our very own Jill was one of three who won the heart of the judge, Malka Dubrawsky. Congrats to Jill and all other PMQGers who submitted (see all 71 entries here). We cannot wait to see them all in person at the April 21st meeting.

Charity Quilt Sewing Bees

This week PMQG members, Cherri, Susan and Rachel, are hosting two quilting bees for Quilts for Quake Survivors at Cherri's studio Sew On. There will be long-arm quilting, binding and piecing action going on Thursday, April 14th from 1 pm - 6 pm and Friday, April 15th from 1 pm - 9 pm.

Join them for either or both days as there will be work to do. While Cherri and Rachel command the long-arm there is space for cutting fabric, piecing blocks on sewing machines and a cosy spot for hand stitching. Snack and drinks will be available and it'd be great if you could bring something to share too. Drop Cherri a note at getyoursewon@gmail.com to let her know if you can make it so she has an idea of the number of people to expect. If you have fabric, blocks or quilt tops to donate as well as your time please bring those too.

The 12" Solids Block Swap (& Challenge)

The swap for our April meeting is a 12.5" block (for a finished 12" size) made entirely of solid fabrics. And it is a challenge… Say what?

Step 1) Make a 12.5" quilt block using only solid fabrics. Choose solid fabrics in colors you love, 12" finished size - that is all you need to remember for April.

Step 2) Put your block in a paper bag with your name and email address. Swap it at the April meeting and meet up with your swap partners before you leave.

Step 3, the challenge) Turn that block into _______ and return it to it's original creator at the May meeting. Into what? The challenge portion will be announced at April's meeting.

Step 4) Give the challenge item back to it's original block creator at the May meeting.

Yes, you get your block back as a completed project.

A First Thursday event: PMQG Quilt Show at PNCA

Portland Modern Quilt Guild's first quilt show opens this Thursday!

PMQG officers have made it their mission to get us all interacting with each other—remember last month's Portland map? This month everyone was handed a quarter of a charm square upon entry, when Christina said the word we quickly found our matches and met new friends.

April Swap reminder: Solids blocks!

In our rush to choose charm squares and the lovely Kona solids brought by Heather, the reminder about April's swap was forgotten. Make a block of any design you wish using all solid fabrics! The block should be 12.5" to make a 12" finished block. Above is a paper pieced block from Megan, blogged here. Maybe you'll be the one to go home with it!

Also, make space in your schedule Saturday April 2nd to attend the book signing for member Susan Beal's book Modern Log Cabin Quilting. The signing is at Modern Domestic from 5-6 and then there is open sew until 9! Hope to see you there.

1 year anniversary meeting on Thursday

That's right, celebrate St. Patrick's Day with your favorite quilters on Thursday. We'll be in room 101 at PNCA, 1241 NW Johnson, at 7pm. As always, meetings are open to everyone, and new quilters are welcome. This month marks PMQG's one year anniversary and yes oh yes, there will be cake!

Our program this month is Notions. We all know about rotary cutters and cutting mats, but what about those other gadgets and tools that make our sewing easier, quicker and better? Come hear about the tools your fellow quilters wouldn't do without, bring a favorite of your own and tell us why we want one too!

Remember to bring:

A favorite notion (or two) to show to your fellow quilters
A cup or mug (you can do it!) for water.
Your name button if you have one.
A quilt for show in tell, in any stage of completion
For the "Lucky Charms" swap: charm squares (5 inch squares) of modern, quilt shop quality fabric. You can bring up to 40 squares and exchange them for the same number of squares brought by other quilters. See Elizabeth's Charm Squares 101 for information on cutting your own charm squares.
And if you signed up to bring a snack, don't forget!

And finally, an important reminder:

Friday is the last day to submit a quilt for the April show at PNCA. If you're on the fence, do it! The minimum you need is one picture of your quilt and a couple sentences sharing an aspect of modern quilting that appeals to you that is reflected in your quilt. Show off your stuff ladies! You can submit up to two quilts for consideration in the show. See the above link for the other details.

Despite what appeared to be well-laid plans, we had to change the location of our sewing day. The new location is Fabric Depot (700 SE 122nd Avenue in SE Portland)! This is great news if, like me, you always forget something crucial when you go to a sewing day. The room is huge and, of course, very well suited to sewing. We know it won't be as convenient a location for some of you but we hope it will still be a blast!

Also, don't miss your chance to be entered into a drawing for quilter-friendly goodies. Rachel is doing a brief survey to help her understand the micro-culture of PMQG better as she writes up an analysis of our group for a class. If you've ever attended a PMQG meeting, she wants to hear from you! Tell her about yourself and your perception of PMQG and get your name in the hat. The drawing will be at the next PMQG meeting. You must complete the survey by 5pm Thursday, March 17th to be included. We know how you all like a giveaway!

All Day Sew March 19th

What could be better than having eight straight hours to sew alongside your PMQG pals?

Nothing!

So plan to come sew with us Saturday March 19 from 9am-5pm. We'll be in a big well-lit room at TaborSpace at 5441 SE Belmont Street in close-in Southeast Portland. If you're not familiar with this part of town, it's very accessible: just a few minutes drive from our downtown monthly meeting location, with easy parking. Venue change! We'll be at Fabric Depot, 700 Southeast 122nd Avenue in southeast Portland.

The sewing day is FREE to members! If you're not a member but you'd like to join us, you can come for just $10.

What to bring:

Your project and sewing machine (don't forget the pedal, cord and machine feet!)
A power strip or extension cord if you have one.
Sewing tools. We will provide a couple ironing boards and irons and a couple of cutting mats but the rest is up to you! Remember rulers, rotary cutters, scissors, thread and pins! Consider labelling common items so they don't get mistaken for someone else's.
Drinks and snacks as desired.

Food and drink will be available in the adjacent cafe, as well as within walking distance at Caldera restaurant.

Modern Quilt show in April at PNCA

Exciting news for PMQG members! The Continuing Education program at PNCA has offered to host a show of quilts from the Portland Modern Quilt Guild in Gallery 214 next month. The show will open on first Thursday, April 7th, so put that on your calendar right now!

We are thrilled with this development and we hope that you will submit your modern quilts to be considered for the show. There is space for up to 15 quilts in the show. The selection process will include both PMQG officers and PNCA staff and faculty. You have two weeks from today to submit your quilts for consideration.

Guidelines:

You may submit up to two quilts
The maximum size of quilts is 80" wide by 90" tall
The quilt design must be your own original work, not a pattern of someone else's
To submit a quilt you must be a dues-paid member of PMQG. (If you're not 100% certain you've paid your dues, ask us)
Quilts should be modern

What does that mean? You tell us.

It's clear that modern quilting is personal to each of us, and a bit hard to define. This show offers us an opportunity to share with each other and the community our thoughts on what modern quilting is right now. Be a part of this dialogue by sharing what modern quilting means to you, and discussing what makes your quilt "modern".

Submissions:
Entries are due by midnight on Friday, March 18th.
Please email your entry to portlandmodernquiltguild@gmail.com.
If you are submitting two quilts, please email your entries for each quilt separately.
Your email should include:
Your name
Quilt name
Quilt dimensions
Your statement explaining what modern quilting means to you, and discussing what makes your quilt "modern".
Up to three photos of your quilt. One photo should show the entire quilt. The other photos may show details or the back, as you desire.

We expect to have final decisions made by March 30th at the latest. Quilts will be due to a designated PMQG contact or PNCA by April 2. We know this will be a tight turnaround for those that are chosen, but we will help you make it work. Cross our hearts. Your quilt will be on display until April 21st or 22nd.
